We are pleased to be involved in the Transitions scheme for children called
'Eye Care Eye Know'.

This scheme in association with the National Schools Partnership, has been created specifically for key stage 2 children. It aims to bring teachers and eyecare professionals together to improve the knowledge of eye health in an innovative and fun way for children.

Some FAQ's that parents may ask about their children's health.

At what age can/ should my children have their eyes tested?From the age of 3. Certainly before the child becomes a 'Visual Adult' at 7-8 years old. If there are any symptoms before 3 years, the child can be taken to either your GP or local health clinic.
How often should my children have their eyes tested? Children need eye examinations every 6-12 months, or as advised after their first visit.
Do children need more frequent eye examinations than adults?Yes. Children have more frequent changes in their prescription than adults.
Is it normal for my child’s eye to drift inwards/ outwards?Certain eye movements may indicate a visual problem such as a squint which needs to be investigated further. If left untreated, a squint may hinder the development of that eye.
Does my child require glasses?If there is a significant prescription then the child will need glasses prescribed. If it is borderline then this will depend upon whether there are any symptoms such as headaches, blurred vision, letters appearing to ‘jump about’, excessive runny eyes etc.
If my child needs glasses do they have to wear them all the time?This depends upon the strength of any prescription and symptoms.
Does wearing glasses make their eyes lazy?No. Children may want to wear their glasses more frequently because they see better.
Will they always have to wear glasses?Not necessarily. Regular eye examinations can monitor any changes in prescription. This will determine the wearing schedule.
