5 Reasons to Try Contact Lenses

Harrold Opticians • December 11, 2018

When you require vision correction, wearing glasses is the favoured solution for many people but contact lenses provide a number of great benefits as an alternative, or in addition to wearing glasses, so you can alternate between the two options.

Contact lens technology has progressed significantly in recent years and more people are now able to choose this option, with bifocal and multifocal contact lenses and other solutions available to correct the majority of vision problems.

If you have not tried contact lenses, then here are 5 reasons that might make you reconsider:

1. Better for sport and exercising

Wearing glasses can get in the way when you are running and can even be dangerous if you are playing contact sports or sports where a ball could hit you in the face. Wearing contact lenses is much easier and you do not have to think about problems such as your glasses falling off or getting broken.

2. Not affected by the weather

Even if you love your glasses, you have to admit that they can let you down now and again. This will generally happen at the most inconvenient moments and can leave you annoyingly (and potentially dangerously) without vision if they fog up in cold weather. You could plunge into sub-zero conditions and not need to worry about the temperature affecting eyesight when you’re wearing contact lenses.

3. Discreet and won’t affect your appearance

Whilst some people choose to wear glasses as they find them fashionable, there are plenty of other people that feel self-conscious wearing glasses. Anyone who wore glasses at school will no doubt remember at least one incident of being teased and this still puts people off wearing glasses now. If you feel uncomfortable wearing glasses, or simply do not suit wearing them then contact lenses are the ideal solution.

4. Fewer distortions

One of the great things about contact lenses is they are shaped and designed to fit the curvature of your eye and provide better vision due to this. Glasses can be designed to have more curvature but nowhere near to the extent that lenses are able to.

5. Little/no maintenance

With contact lenses, you do not need to spend time cleaning the lenses and you do not need to worry about getting them repaired if you accidentally drop them or they somehow get bent out of shape. Replacing broken or misplaced glasses can be a common, costly occurrence.
