Benefits of Having a Second Pair of Glasses

November 24, 2021

Having two pairs of glasses might seem like an unnecessary expense but if you have ever found yourself in a situation where you really need a second pair, you will know exactly why it is a very worthwhile cost.

Glasses are an item that can easily get damaged and are also small enough to regularly misplace. If you rely on your glasses for reading, driving or any other everyday activity then you are never too far away from a big problem if you do not have a second pair.

Here are some of the key benefits of having a second pair of glasses:

Accidents happen

Even the best quality glasses are prone to getting broken, either from getting dropped, sat on or many other types of incidents that can happen. A cracked lens or broken frame will require an appointment to get fixed, which could take several days or even longer, during which time you will have to struggle without your glasses.

Backup to contact lenses

If you prefer to wear contact lenses, it is essential to still have a pair of glasses as a backup plan. When you get home after work and your feet ache, you kick off your shoes. When your lenses are gritty or your eyes ache you should take off your contacts. It’s your bodies way of saying it needs a break.

For prescription sunglasses

As well as having your standard everyday glasses, having a pair of prescription sunglasses will help to protect your eyes from UV rays. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, go on holidays abroad or like to get out a lot during sunny days at home, prescription sunglasses are definitely needed.

For sports

If you play sports that are contact, involve balls or other potential risks for breaking your glasses, it is a good idea to have a second pair of glasses that are made from stronger, more durable materials. As well as being less likely to get damaged, these types of glasses are less likely to cause you an eye injury, so they are really important for sports players.

Easy to misplace

A lot of the time people cannot find their glasses, it turns out they are still on the top of their head but there are also times when you turn the house upside down and still cannot find them. Being such a small item, which you are constantly taking on and off, it is very easy to misplace your glasses, so a second pair will help you to cope until they turn up.

Make sure that you do not end up struggling without glasses until you can book an appointment to buy some new ones or get broken ones fixed.
